1 AN ACT AMENDING SECTION 10-13-14, UTAH CODE ANNO-
2 TATED 1953, RELATING TO EXTRATERRITORIAL JURIS-
3 DICTION OF TOWNS OVER WATER SOURCES AND
4 THEIR POWER TO CONSTRUCT AND MAINTAIN WATER-
5 WORKS AND PROVIDING FOR GRANTING TO TOWNS
6 EXTRATERRITORIAL JURISDICTION OVER THE POINT
7 OF DIVERSION FROM WHICH WATER FROM STREAMS
8 IS TAKEN TO THE LENGTH OF FIFTEEN MILES; JURIS-
9 DICTION OVER AREAS SURROUNDING WELLS AND
10 SHALLOW SPRINGS AND ON EACH SIDE OF A SOURCE
11 TO THE EXTENT OF FIFTEEN HUNDRED FEET; PRO-
12 VIDING THAT TOWNS SHALL HAVE POWER TO ENACT
13 ORDINANCES AND REGULATIONS TO PROTECT SAID
14 WATERSHED AREAS FROM POLLUTION.
Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Utah:
1 Section 10-13-14, Utah Code Annotated 1953, is amended to
2 read:
8 10-13-14. They may lay out, construct, open and keep in repair
4 canals, water ditches or water pipes to conduct water for artificial
5 light and power purposes, and construct, own and operate artificial
6 light and power plants; may construct, own and operate water pipes
7 for irrigation, domestic or other use for the inhabitants of the town;
8 and may annually assess and collect a special tax of not to exceed four
9 mills on the dollar for such purposes upon all the property in the town.
10 For the purpose of protecting the water used for culinary and
11 domestic uses from pollution their jurisdiction shall extend over the
12 stream or source thereof from which the water is taken for [ten]
