A JOINT RESOLUTION RATIFYING THE PROPOSED
AMENDMENT OF THE CONSTITUTION OF THE
UNITED STATES AUTHORIZING AN INCOME
TAX.
1 Whereon, At the first, session of the sixty-first congress
2 it was resolved by the senate and house of representatives
3 of the United States of America in congress assembled (two-
4 thirds of each house concurring therein), that the follow-
5 ing article be proposed as an amendment of the constitu-
6 tion of the United States, which, when ratified by the leg-
7 islature of three-fourths of the several states, shall be valid
8 to all intents and purposes as a part of the said constitu-
9 tion, namely:
10 "Article Sixteen. The congress shall have power to
11 lay and collect taxes on incomes, from whatsoever source
12 derived, without apportionment among the several states
13 and without regard to any census or enumeration."
14 Therefore, Be it resolved by the Legislature of the
16 State of Utah:
16 Section 1. That the legislature of the State of Utah
17 does hereby ratify the above recited proposed amendment
18 to the constitution of the United States;
19 Section 2. That certified copies of this preamble and
20 Joint Resolution be forwarded by the Governor of this
21 State to the President of the United States, to the presid-
22 ing officer of the United States Senate and to the Speaker
28 of the United States House of Representatives.
